TODAY'S WOMAN SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT

During the month of August, The Beaufort Gazette asked its readers to nominate local business and professional women who they thought embodied "Today's Woman." The top 20 nominees featured in this section were chosen based on professional accomplishments, community involvement and diversity of profession. The Gazette salutes these women during National Business Women's Week, Oct. 15-20, 2007.

Rebecca Wendy Bass

Job title: Branch Manager, Sunshine Mortgage Corporation

Job duties: Consults with clients purchasing or refinancing, customizing a financing solution that meets their financial goals. Leads a team of employees to ensure an excellent level of service for her clients. Responsible for Sunshine Mortgage's presence in the Beaufort community.

Professional accomplishments: Graduated from Leadership Beaufort, licensed to practice law in New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania, named a Diva (outstanding business woman) by Atlanta's Business to Business magazine, mentor of the year in the Georgia 100 program, won the Mortgage Bankers' Association of Georgia Platinum Award in 2006, member of Sunshine Mortgage's President's Club for the past three years and won the Xinnix Top Gun award for her mortgage accomplishments.

Community involvement: Board member of the Home Builders Association of the Lowcountry, member of Sea Island Rotary, member of Lady's Island Business and Professional Association, member, Beaufort County Board of Realtors, teaches dog obedience classes for the Beaufort Kennel Club, volunteers for the Harbor Island Sea Turtle Preservation Project and is a member of the Beaufort Sail and Power Squadron.

Education: Cum laude and with departmental honors from Bryn Mawr College with degree in sociology, graduated from Rutgers University School of Law, graduated from Harvard University Business School's international senior management program.

Why she was nominated: Bass opened the Beaufort branch as one of the top producers of the firm and has made it one of the top-performing branches. Clients respect her expertise and the fact that she tirelessly gives of her time and energy to develop personalized financing solutions that meet her clients' needs.
